Dust

So I got new towels for Christmas. Black towels. They're really soft. But here's the thing...why do new towels have to shed? It's a mystery to me. My shirts don't shed when I buy them new. Nor do my socks. So what gives with the towels? If you know, drop me a comment.

So as look around my mainly cream-colored bathroom these days, I see a thin coating of black "towel dust" everywhere. Not only that, but that same dust sticks to my skin as well. It drives me nuts.

And this gets me thinking...what kind of dust is my life leaving on those who come into contact with me?

Am I covering them with a thin black dusting?

Or am I leaving particles of light swirling in the air around them?

How about you?

What an awesome picture. It reminds me of the view from my window which reflects the morning sun shining through the trees and the full moon at night and I pray that not only will His light shine down upon me...but through me as well. Sad to say many times my light is dimmed by the sin that so easliy entrangles me. What continues to amaze me is that HIS light illuminates the darkness and it is by His grace that His light shines through me.

Pray that I may leave particles of light.

THE FIELDCREST CANNON TOWEL COMPANY GAVE US YOUR ANSWER. IT SAYS NEW TOWELS SHED IN TWO WAYS.

#1 - SOMETIMES THE FIBERS ACTUALLY COME OFF TOWELS SPREADING LINT TO EVERYTHING AROUND IT. THE LINTING FACTOR SHOULD DIMINISH AFTER 5 WASHINGS.

#2 - IF THE TOWELS ARE DARK, COLOR MIGRATION MAY OCCUR AND APPEAR TO BE LINT.

GREAT PICTURE.

troy - don't know if you are familiar with the Nooma short films by Rob Bell (www.nooma.com) - but you should check out Nooma 8, titled DUST...

it talks about what it means to be a disciple and how the Jesus' disciples would literally be covered with His dust - as followers of Him.

“May you believe in God. But may you come to see that God believes in you.
May you have faith in Jesus. But may you come to see that Jesus has faith
that you can be like him. A person of love and compassion and truth.
A person of forgiveness, and peace, and grace, and joy, and hope.
Any may you be covered in the dust of your rabbi, Jesus.”

Anonymous: Thanks!! And I appreciate your sense of humor. I'm dealing w/ #1.

Tim: Its my favorite Nooma. And those words from the end of the film are extremely meaningful -- I previously blogged them: Truly Seeing Yourself

The picture reminded me of this ...

Psalms 23 verse 4 Yes, even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not be afraid of anything, because You are with me.

Notice that it is the...shadow of death... not death. It is like if you are hit by a truck it can kill you but if you are hit by the trucks shadow it can do you no harm.

As believers in Jesus we must remember that physical death is only a shadow,it is really the beginning of a glorious life with God for eternity.
